ODIN's SMART Container Powered by MTI's Technology Wins Prestigous "BEST IN SHOW" Award at RFID Journal Live! 2009 |

Microelectronics Technology Inc. (TSE Code:2314; MTI) today announced that it's partner, ODIN Technologies, the leader in accurate RFID solutions for healthcare, government, aerospace and defense, has won the third annual RFID Journal Awards Best in Show award at RFID Journal LIVE! 2009 in Orlando, Florida. The Best in Show internationally acclaimed award was presented for ODIN's SMART Container which is powered by MTI's innovative UHF RFID Reader design and technology and ODIN's patented BlackbirdTM RFID technology. The Best in Show award is the only global award recognizing excellence in the fast growing industry of RFID.
ODIN won the award for its revolutionary new product, the self-inventorying SMART Container, built on the company's patented Blackbird™ RFID technology. ODIN's self-inventorying SMART Container delivers the industry's first fully automated, global unit level tracking capability, and is deployable in less than 60 seconds inside any ISO standard shipping container. It reads passive RFID tags inside the container with 99.9% accuracy, a feat unachievable until only recently due to technology and design innovations by ODIN. The self-inventorying SMART Container, a fully enclosed solution about the size of a suitcase, will greatly advance visibility, awareness and tracking for global supply chain and logistics functions, delivering for the first time unit level management control all the way from the factory to the front door. Clients have compared it to having two personnel inside each container who can instantaneously count and monitor the contents, and then report its location anywhere around the world. Previous "smart container" technologies only told where a container was, gave limited environmental input such as temperature, and may have included some sort of security seal. Now, thanks to ODIN's self-inventorying SMART Container, asset managers and logisticians have item-level inventory tracking on demand through a click of a mouse.
The Best in Show award is given each year in recognition of product excellence in the area of radio frequency identification, selected from ten finalists. The finalists were selected from scores of entries worldwide who applied for the honor based on market innovation and the business value their products deliver to end-users. Attendees at the show rated the "Best of Show" products by viewing presentations in the exhibit hall, and the editors of RFID Journal then selected the Best in Show winner based on their opinions, the judges' scores and attendee input.
